Villa, 101

Danzante Bay, Baja California Sur

The rugged grandeur of the mountain range that blends seamlessly in pure blue waters created a site that was unlike any other. KBHA's first custom home in Baja California Sur is inspired by the 180-degree views of the ocean and beachfront. The temperate micro-climate and gentile sea breezes demanded a home that was open and expanded the vistas to every space.

The conceptual diagram of the residence’s curved floor plan locates the density of more private spaces in relation to more public spaces along the circulation spine. More intimate a space the closer to the earth, the more public the space the more open to the outside patio. The public and exposed spaces, requiring the 180-degree views, are elevated out of the earth to create an ample sense of space. High clerestory windows allow naturally diffused day-lighting into the earth-sheltered portions of these rooms while the steep hillside blocks direct exposure.
